Elementary School Performing Arts Curriculum
The Key Elements of K-4th Grade PPAS Performing Arts Curriculum:
- Daily performing arts training
- Passionate & experienced teaching artists
- Regular performance and recital opportunities
- Digital portfolios
The most important thing we do for half-day kindergarten students is to teach them to read and write and build a foundation for their future education. That being said, performing arts classes are designed to provide a sampling of all 4 artistic disciplines to these students. Students will be offered performing arts through a “specials” rotation.
Full Day Kindergarten-4th Grade:
Performing arts classes are designed to provide a solid foundation and skills in the four artistic disciplines offered at PPAS. Students will participate daily in performing arts classes.
Over time our curriculum will change as students have continued experience and exposure to the performing arts. In other words, what we offer for programming year 1 will look very different than programming offered in year 5 for example.
The Four PPAS Artistic Disciplines:
(The following are examples of programming we hope to offer now and in the future. The list is not comprehensive nor complete)
Dance: Ballet basics will be emphasized, but units on tap, jazz, hip hop, etc. will be covered to provide broad dance exposure
Vocal Music: Units on range/pitch, harmony, styles and the like will be in the rotations
Instrumental Music: Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music curriculum (piano and intro to woodwind, brass, percussion and strings)
Drama/Musical Theatre: Acting, scene and character development, book based storytelling, and the history of theater
