Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, Courtland Peterson began dancing at the age of 3 and never stopped. Training alongside notable dancers such as Misty Copeland and David Hallberg, by the time Courtland was fifteen she was studying at the American Ballet Theatre in New York City commuting from Brooklyn by subway for daily practice.
Following an injury she was offered a full scholarship to attend The University of Arizona and soon graduated with a BFA in Dance, including a minor in Education. Almost immediately she began working at the secondary school level, teaching dance at a High School back in her hometown of Phoenix. Here she trained multiple dancers in multiple styles, one ultimately going on to win season 7 of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.
Now proud to call Parker, Colorado her home, Courtland (fondly known by students as “Ms. P”) trains the PPA Middle School dancers. Her classes include ballet, pointe, contemporary modern and jazz. Each semester focuses strongly on technique and performance skills resulting in a grand showcase at the end of each semester.
Ms. P prides herself on being an educator who possesses a sincere passion for teaching dance and believes that watching her students grow to attain a level of movement and gain an understanding of dance as a medium of art is one of her life’s most fulfilling achievements.
