What’s New at PPA?

Our unique program combines arts and academics with daily instruction and training in theater, dance, movement, and music. This year in response to requests from our students, we are expanding our visual arts program.

Our Expanded Visual Arts Program

Both the PPA Elementary and Middle School art departments have dedicated spaces specially designed to inspire young artists. In our newly renovated elementary arts classroom, students explore a variety of art movements, study artists through history, and create art using the basic elements of design in classes scheduled every other week.

3 Parker Performing Arts students work on art projects as their teacher oversees their progress.

Our middle school art classroom features a layout that encourages artistic experimentation. 4th - 8th graders study a variety of art movements and artists through history. They create art using advanced elements of design, printmaking, ceramics, and more!

PPA is the 2024 recipient of $500 from the Cherry Arts Student Art Buying Program to use to purchase locally created art for display on campus. This opportunity allows our students to learn art appreciation and the business of art while developing teamwork, public speaking, and financial literacy skills.

Visual Arts Enhance Academic Learning

6 Parker Performing Arts students use their ipads as artistic learning tools that enable them to edit photographs.

At PPA the visual arts help students explore many different subjects and ideas. In science they may create sculptures of the moon as they study space exploration or a 3-dimensional representation of DNA for a biology unit.

To gain a better understanding of what life was like during specific time periods in history, students will look at the art created during that era.

A revolving gallery of student-produced art is displayed around the building throughout the school year. We frequently participate in events off-campus like the DCSD Art Festival. Our students often enter their original pieces in statewide arts contests as well.

The PPA Visual Arts program gives students another opportunity to find their artistic passion. Just as no audition is required to participate in performing arts here, students interested in visual arts do not need to present a portfolio to enroll.

Schedule a school tour and visit our visual arts classrooms soon. A limited number of spaces are still available for the 2024-25 school year.
